CD - Roger Quilter Vol 3

"The songs on this disc span more than 50 years and show Quilter in all his moods – light, exuberant, ephemeral, narrative, pensive, but always melodic. The arrangements of the songs included from "The Arnold book of old songs" are among Quilter's finest work. They present the melodies with elegance, imagination, and deep affection; they never overpower. The accompaniments enhance the voice, supporting but not dominating."
A very satisfying recital from two fine singers of songs by a first-class songsmith

The first eleven songs are shared between the soprano and tenor and make for a very English experience. The songs float and are ideal for the warm sunny day during which I auditioned this record.

Many of these songs are in the musical DNA of a certain generation of music-lovers and evoke a world that Quilter must have hoped would return after the war. They undoubtedly strike a chord at present. The whole collection is a rich treasury and very well put together. I found it entrancing.

I found this CD very satisfying and would commend it to all lovers of English folk music. The singing and piano playing are all of a piece and very well recorded and engineered. This inspires me to hope to explore the first two CDs in this series and also Roger Quilter.

English Drawing Room Songs

This is an excellent CD (3rd volume) of Roger Quilter's songs. [...] These songs are attractive and easy to listen to and fit well with the two previous releases. A must for any English song enthusiast.

Perfect Rendered Traditional English Melodies

The settings of Roger Quilter of the poetry of Shelley, Christina Rossetti, Willliam Blake, Robert Burns, etc blend perfectly with the well-loved melodies such as "Drink to me only", "Ye Banks and Braes", " Charlie is my darling" and so on. Nathan Vale's light baritone with accurate pitch and diction might have been created for the purpose of singing these melodies while Charlotte de Rothschild is not outdone with her contribution to this CD. The piano accompaniment by Adrian Farmer is exquisitely appropriate and adds further delight to the appreciative ear. Of its kind - perfection.
